The Delaware County Juvenile Detention Center is managed and operated by the Youth Opportunity Center, Inc. The Detention Center serves children who have committed delinquent acts and are placed under the jurisdiction of juvenile probation department and courts. The Delaware County Juvenile Detention Center is a co-ed facility; however, populations do not come into contact with one another during the daily schedule. The Detention Center has 44 individual rooms that provide a safe and secure environment for juveniles.
The Muncie Community Schools provides an educational opportunity for all students who are detained in the Detention Center. Students who are detained remain enrolled in their home school. A certified teacher and an instructional assistant provides educational support in classes the students are enrolled in as well as GED prep materials for students whom are no longer enrolled in school. There are 2 classrooms for students to work in quiet and well supervised environments.
